Last Friday (23.02.2024), the Late Antique and Byzantine Studies Graduate Student Colloquium was pleased to hold the 3rd annual Late Antique and Byzantine Studies Graduate Student Workshop at the Central European University campus building (Quellenstrasse 51, 1100, Vienna).
Co-organized by the Department of Medieval Studies at Central European University and the Ancient, Byzantine and Medieval Studies Cluster of the Doctoral School of Historical and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna, the workshop was conceived as a platform for graduate students from the affiliated institutions to present and receive feedback on their ongoing research, trial conference papers, foster intellectual exchange, and explore possibilities for future cooperation.
Through the event, graduate students working in different disciplines (art history, archaeology, philosophy, religious studies, gender studies, literary studies, papyrology, palaeography, epigraphy, and other neighboring disciplines), within the broadly defined boundaries of Late Antique and Byzantine studies, presented their research and engaged in a subsequent Q&A session with their fellow peers to enrich their perspectives.
The Graduate Student Colloquium was initiated in 2022 to foster cooperation between these two institutions (CEU-UniWien) which have a strong tradition of fostering academic excellence in the field of Late Antique and Byzantine studies. In the following years, the events of the colloquium have branched out, ranging from open reading sessions to graduate student workshops and international graduate student conferences. We are now looking forward to the next event, the second annual international graduate student conference titled “Telling Byzantine History: Current Trends and New Directions.” The call for papers is active until March 1, all prospective participants are welcome to apply!
