New Publication: Soul, Body, and Gender in Late Antiquity

December 5 sees the publication of a new volume authored by our PhD student Anastasia Theologou, alumna Andra Jugănaru, Stanimir Panayotov, and Prof. István PerczelSoul, Body, and Gender in Late Antiquity: Essays on Embodiment and Disembodiment offers substantial re-readings of both traditional and underrepresented accounts and geographies of soul, body, gender, and sexuality in late antique history, philosophy, and theology. The book’s geographical scope extends beyond the ancient Mediterranean, providing comparative perspectives in the Near East and South Asia in fascinating studies that engage scholars from different fields and research traditions, and reveal both change and continuity in the perception and social role of gender, sexuality, body, and soul in this period.
